Stiff Where?!: The Tea On How to Properly Maintain Your Kinky Wigs
The key to extending the lifespan of any afro-textured wig depends largely on how you care for it. Much like anything else we own, if we invest time and effort into maintaining it, we can expect it to serve us well for a very long time. And given the cost of wigs, do you really want to skimp on hair care? In the end, a little care goes a looong way! Here are our Top 5 Tips for maintaining your kinky wigs:
Be Gentle
Unlike straighter wigs, afro-textured wigs have delicate coils that are inclined to tangle up. These delicate coils call for delicate handling (...step away from the paddle brush sis). In most cases, you shouldn’t be running a brush through your kinky unit from root to tip, especially when dry. Your heaviest brushing or styling should be done on wash days. On non-wash days, make sure the hair is wet or at least damp. When detangling, use a wide-tooth comb,a detangling brush, or just your fingers! And of course, always start from the ends and gradually work your way up to the roots.
